In 2007, while living in Seattle, I was aware of the increase in the number of destructive storms that occurred and became preoccupied with the change it made in the physical landscape. They left a trail of damage along the roadside. It was also the year that television moved from analog to digital, creating a noticeable increase in discarded tv’s among the mix of tires, car parts, children’s bikes and even discarded ironing boards.
I was moved to make sculpture that both made use of the materials and gave them purpose. I collected and combined the branches and artifacts into larger-than-life forms. Their circular shapes, based upon microscopic particles, were magnified into large-scale sculpture in order to illustrate the integral relationship between “man” and “nature.” Each piece is composed of specific accumulations found in the area where the installations were shown.
